Telemental health, using technology (i.e., video, phone, text, live chat, online platforms) to provide mental health assessment and treatment at a distance, has increased access to mental health care. The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) has published telemental health practice guidelines.
Telemental health services are unquestionably effective for diagnosis and assessment, across many populations (adult, child, geriatric, and ethnic), and in disorders in many settings (emergency, home health), are comparable to in-person care, and complement other services in primary care.
Telemental health care can provide effective and adaptable solutions to the care of mental illnesses universally. While being comparable to in-person services, telemental health care is particularly advantageous and inexpensive through the use of current technologies, online therapy platforms, and adaptable designs, especially in isolated communities.
Dr. Godfrey does distance counseling regularly with her private practice clients. She is licensed in Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Texas. She also provides counseling on two different online platforms: Talkspace and Smart Counseling.
